Q:   I’ve purchased a Clever Island subscription through Gateway. How do I activate my account?

A:  If you purchased your Clever Island subscription through Gateway, you should have received a certificate in the box with your computer. The certificate features an activation code you will need to create your account. If you did not receive your certificate, please call Gateway toll-free at 800-846-2000 and press the option for Customer Service.
Once you have located your activation code and password, setting up Clever Island account is easy. Simply follow these instructions:
Go to http://www.cleverisland.com/gateway.
Type in your activation code and password and continue with the registration process. This will include choosing user names and passwords for your family.
Once you’ve activated your account, Clever Island is yours to explore. Just go to http://www.cleverisland.com and log in, or use the Clever Island Desktop Shortcut on your desktop.
You won’t need the activation code again once you’ve created your Clever Island account. All you’ll need to log in is your user name and password.

Q:   What is the difference between a Parent Account and a Child Account?

A:  Both kinds of accounts are created when you subscribe to Clever Island. Think of the Parent Account as the ‘master key’ for your family’s subscription. With your user name and password, you can gain access to your account information as well as to reports about how your family uses our site.
Child Account, on the other hand, gives Clever Island a way to deliver customized content to each child using our service. We also use Child Accounts to track each child’s activities around the site, so we can present accurate reports to parents. As a result, it’s important that each child in your family log in under his or her own user name when using the site: a child who logs in as somebody else won’t receive a custom-tailored experience.

Q:   How do I choose a user name and password?

A:  Your user name and password must be between three and sixteen characters long. User names and passwords are not case-sensitive: they can be entered in either upper case or lower case. They can contain letters, numbers, or some of each.
You may select any user name as long as it is not already taken by someone else. If your preferred user name is already taken, you will be prompted to select an alternative. (Adding a number to the user name you want is a good way to make it unique.)

Q:   Why do I need to submit my credit card information to get a free trial for Clever Island?

A:  We collect your credit card because we are required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) to verify that we are collecting personal information from an adult and not from a child. We only authorize your credit card to make sure that it is valid. You will NOT be charged during your free trial.

Q:   Can I set up an account for a child who does not live with me?

A:  Yes. Because Clever Island is a web-based service, your access to our activities isn’t tied to any single location. If you wish, you can divide your 3 Child Accounts among 3 children living in 3 totally different parts of the world: as long as they have Internet access, they are just moments away from Clever Island.

Q:   What forms of payment does Clever Island accept?

A:  We gladly accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.

Q:   When will charges appear on my credit card?

A:  Subscription fees will be charged to your credit card immediately after your free trial period, unless you cancel before the trial period ends. After the initial charge, you will be billed on the first day of each period of service. (The period of service will vary according to the terms of your subscription agreement, and may range from one month to one year.) The product descriptor on your credit card billing statement will read "Clever Island.com."

Q:   I bought my subscription through a source other than the Clever Island website. How do I renew it?

A:  Certain Clever Island subscriptions, such as those purchased through computer stores and other retail channels, may have different payment terms than a regular subscription purchased through the Clever Island website. In most of these cases, however, renewals are made directly through Clever Island. If you have questions about renewing your account, the best way to get answers is to contact our Customer Care Center directly at our toll-free number (U.S. & Canada only) 1-866-4-CLEVER (1-866-425-3837). We can be reached from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. Please have available your user name and the e-mail address you provided us when you registered with Clever Island.

Q:   How do I cancel my account?

A:  If you are feeling dissatisfied with your Clever Island experience, we hope you’ll give our Customer Care Center a chance to make things better before you cancel. However, if you wish to cancel your Clever Island membership, our Billing Department will be happy to oblige. You can reach our Customer Service and Billing staff at our toll-free number (U.S. & Canada only) 1-866-4-CLEVER (1-866-425-3837). We can be reached from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. Please have available your user name and the e-mail address you list in your account information.
